African-American Voter May Go Republican Because of Tax Cuts

Bread and butter issues pay off. "Are you better off than you were 2 years ago" works.

People are not as stupid as the media likes to think. For most Americans, saving money isn't "crumbs". And they do notice the difference.

Even people you wouldn't expect.

Terry Hood, 34, an African-American who works at a Dollar General store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and took this year’s poll, said he voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

But he will consider a Republican for Congress because he believes the party is making it easier to find jobs and he applauds the recent Republican-led tax cut.

“It sounds strange to me to say this about the Republicans, but they’re helping with even the small things,” Hood said in a phone interview. “They’re taking less taxes out of my paycheck. I notice that.”

That's a single individual. And we shouldn't generalize too much based on that. But it shows how tax cuts make an impact. Beyond ideology, delivering benefits to people works.

The left wins by sucking up money and then spitting out welfare. Conservatives win by freeing people to hold on to their money.
