Won't You Please Help Second Some Failed Actors Overturn the Election?

Every few weeks some Hollywood insider ropes together a bunch of semi-hip second string celebrities for a cause, like banning guns or overturning the election results. And then you get a video of a bunch of earnest celebs earnestly reading lines that urge people to do whatever stupid thing they say.

Like overturn an election.

On Dec. 19, the Electoral College will cast their votes for the next president of the United States. And a new celebrity PSA is urging at least 37 members of the 538-person College to vote for a candidate other than Donald Trump, denying him the full 270 votes required to assume office and forcing an alternate candidate to take his place

The 17 other celebrities featured — including Debra Messing, Noah Wyle, and Bob Odenkirk — take turns explaining that the Electoral College voters should vote with their conscience, and select a qualified candidate for the presidency.

I, for one, can't think of anyone to better explain the Electoral College than Bob Odenkirk. Unless it's Debra Messing. Or maybe George Takei.

The video, released on YouTube by Unite for America, not only features Sheen and Schiff, but also Debra Messing, James Cromwell, BD Wong, Noah Wyle, Freda Payne, Bob Odenkirk, J. Smith Cameron, Michael Urie, Moby, Mike Farrell, Loretta Swit, Christine Lahti, Steven Pasquale, Dominic Fumusa and Emily Tyra.

How will Electors possibly resist a call from Moby?

This video isn't infuriating. It's sad. It's the work of utterly clueless people who imagine that they have far more influence than they really do. And seriously think that electors will somehow go unfaithful if the guy who played a pretend president, but hates America, tells them to in an earnest enough voice. All they're really doing is humiliating themselves.

What's the argument here? I was on ER. So I know all about the Electoral College?

On the bright side, this video does finally manage to unite actors from ER and Chicago Hope and the West Wing. Anyone suffering nostalgia for overrated 90s prime time programming can enjoy seeing them together with Will from Will and Grace and one of the stars of MASH. If that doesn't convince them to overthrow our system of government, I don't know what will.
