The Obama White House having a Jewish liaison makes as much sense as the KKK having a Black outreach program. But liberal Jews are far more optimistic about Obama than Black people are about the KKK. But the mask has come one of Obama's liaisons who has made positive comments about a radical anti-Israel hate group at war with Jewish charities and the Jewish State.
A Haaretz article makes the following claim...
One of the White House Jewish liaisons struck a different tone, telling Haaretz, “are you kidding? I was getting invitations to the protest and I know half the people who are going to that,” speaking of the If Not Now-organized demonstration planned for outside the hotel.
If Not Now is an anti-Israel hate group that's just JVP with a fresher brand. Bernie Sanders dumped his own Jewish outreach coordinator Simone Zimmerman due to her ugly views. Simone Zimmerman is a key figure in the If Not Now hate group,
The White House liaison remains carefully anonymous for obvious reasons. The Haaretz pieces lists three former and one current liaison. They likely match up to Jarrod Bernstein, Zach Kelly, Matt Nosanchuk and Chanan Weissman. Matt Nosanchuk is a gay rights activist still with the administration. Age wise he isn't quite the If Not Now demo. Jarrod Bernstein has left the White House and is in New York. Kelly tends to be treated as a placeholder. Finally there's the current White House Jewish liaison Chanan Weissman.
Chanan Weissman is an intriguing possibility. He is the right age and while he is supposed to be a Modern Orthodox Jew, he follows a laundry list of anti-Israel groups on Twitter, including J Street and its president Jeremy Ben Ami, and its Muslim anti-Israel J Street U student activist president, Bend the Arc, the Forward's Jane Eisner, but these could easily fall within the purview of his job within an anti-Israel administration that has catered to the anti-Israel left.
But there's also Matt Duss, Gershom Gorenberg, Sheera Frenkel, the Intercept, Glenn Greenwald, Spencer Ackerman, Peter Beinart, Max Fisher and other voices you typically associate with anti-Israel profiles. There are some centrist voices also and following someone is not necessarily an endorsement. But it does raise some interesting questions. It's not evidence of anything and should not be used as such. And yet it is clear that at least one of Obama's White House liaisons seems to have some problematic associations.
Glenn Greenwald has defended Hamas. Most of the rest on the list are extremely vehement anti-Israel voices. No liaison to the Jewish community should be associated with them.
