You might have gotten the idea from the media's sudden burst of pious outrage that joking about the deaths of your political enemies is wrong. Nah. It's Republicans joking about Democrats dying that's deeply and thoroughly wrong.

The other way around is all in good fun.

Ohio Senate candidate Ted Strickland joked about the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on Monday, saying it came "at a good time" for union workers since he was unable to cast the deciding vote in a March case that ended up in a 4-4 deadlock.

Don't worry. He apologized.

Strickland apologized in a statement to the Washington ExaminerWednesday morning. "That was an insensitive remark and I apologize."

And there you go. That's it. No great wave of outrage. No suggestions that he represents a threat to the republic. Because it's fine when Democrats do it. That's Rule 1. Rule 2 is see Rule 1.
