The Muslim rapist was supposed to be locked up indefinitely

Beltline rapist Wafid Delaa will remain locked up indefinitely, Alberta's top court ruled Friday.

In a unanimous decision, a three-member Alberta Court of Appeal panel rejected arguments the judge who convicted Delaa erred in finding he was a dangerous offender.

He's a changed man now

A Calgary man who was dubbed the “Beltline rapist” after being convicted in 2006 of sexually assaulting two young women has been granted day parole.

Wafid Delaa, who came to Canada from Algeria in 1997, also faces deportation back to his home country.

Considering Canada's lenient laws, its current government and the track record of trying to deport Algerians, there's no real reason for confidence here.

Delaa, now in his early 50s, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in September 2003 and a 17-year-old student in March 2004 in Calgary’s Beltline area.

“You would break into their residence and knock them unconscious before sexually assaulting them,” the Parole Board of Canada noted in their written decision. “You used threats, a weapon and physical violence against them.”

And now he's on day parole because he's a changed man.

The Parole Board of Canada indicated Delaa was at a high to moderate risk of reoffending.

The assessment also noted at the time of his offences, he had a “distorted view about women and sex and believed that women should always be willing to have sex with whomever.”

Much like the Islamic prophet who also believed the same things.

However, the board said Delaa claimed his belief had changed, he expressed “strong feelings of remorse, regret, shame and empathy” for the victims, and his new spirituality as well as programs at the institution had helped him make progress.

Dare we even ask about his spirituality?
