Like you, I am far more concerned with the health and happiness of John Kerry than I am with our national security. And so news like this worries me a great deal.
John Kerry ducked out of a NATO summit early to catch actor Lin-Manuel Miranda’s final performance in the Broadway hit “Hamilton.”
The NATO summit, which took place Friday and Saturday in Warsaw, Poland, was dubbed by the U.S. embassy there as “one of the most important political events of the year.”
The event was attended by President Obama, Defense Secretary Ash Carter, and Secretary of State John Kerry, before he dipped out early to head back to the U.S.
Back stateside, Kerry was spotted at the 8 p.m. showing of Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
Well this is serious stuff.
Sure Kerry got to see Hamilton, but what about all the Broadway musicals that he's missing out on because of his diplomatic duties? Has he even seen the Book of Mormon? What about Jersey Boys? Or Beautiful and Something Rotten?
Just think how much occasionally going to conferences before flying out to see a hit show could be interfering with Kerry's ability to spend ridiculous amounts of his wife's money to see ridiculously overrated spectacles.
It's worrisome. Very worrisome.
But the solution is simple.
If Kerry were to quit, he would immediately have far more time to see all the Broadway musicals he wants. Sure he's probably seen Cats already, but he could see it again. Or Wicked. And there's An American in Paris. And Les Miserables.
John Kerry is a notorious patriot, but perhaps it's time for him to put himself first for once and quit so he can spend more time falling asleep while trying to make sense of Hamilton.
