On the occasion of Ramadan, Obama decided to gift us with yet another sanctimonious lecture about the beauty of Islam. He informs us that, "I stand firmly with Muslim American communities in rejection of the voices that seek to divide us". The leading divisive voice this decade has unquestionably been him. But let's move beyond the obvious.
"Here in the United States, we are blessed with Muslim communities as diverse as our nation itself," he claims.
America is a multi-religious country. Muslims, by definition, cannot be as diverse as a multi-religious country. Furthermore Islam tends to do such a good job of purging internal dissent that Islam is far less diverse than Christianity. But then again theocracy is a very real and abiding presence in the Muslim world. And is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future,
