Katie Couric Tries to Play Dumb Over Anti-Gun Documentary Edit

Katie Couric has been in television journalism in one form or another since 1979. She's not anything resembling a journalist, but she has spent most of her life in the industry. Which means that her excuse for the attempt to make supporters of the Second Amendment look stupid asks us to assume that she's naive and inexperienced.

My question to the VCDL regarding the ability of convicted felons and those on the terror watch list to legally obtain a gun, was followed by an extended pause, making the participants appear to be speechless.

When I screened an early version of the film with the director, Stephanie Soechtig, I questioned her and the editor about the pause and was told that a "beat" was added for, as she described it, “dramatic effect," to give the audience a moment to consider the question.

Again, if someone unfamiliar with the industry had claimed this, they might at least have had a tiny bit of plausibility. Not a lot. But a little bit. This is a woman who has been involved in broadcasting for most of her life claiming to be too naive to know exactly what effect is intended here.

Katie Couric wants to be taken seriously, but she's happy to play dumb and blame her own director for misleading her about something that even non-professionals have no trouble understanding.

At least the post-Marissa Mayer Yahoo may end up cutting off Katie Couric's latest extension on her 15 minutes.
