While the media has attacked the Freedom Center's fight against BDS at San Diego State University, Israeli Zionist groups understand and appreciate the Freedom Center's activism.
Im Tirtzu, the leading Zionist campus organization in Israel, has expressed its enthusiastic support for the Freedom Center's efforts. On Social Media, Im Tirtzu has stated,
“There is an epidemic of Jew hatred on American campuses and at San Diego State University. This Jew hatred is incited by Students for Justice in Palestine, the Muslim Students Association and assorted leftist groups, all of whom support the terrorist organizations Hamas and Fatah."
Recently the David Horowitz Freedom Center put out a series of posters calling out BDS activists at San Diego State University. Unsurprisingly, anti-Israel activists accosted the university president and even detained him for over two hours demanding that the posters be removed.
Once again we see how anti-Israel radicals hypocritically claim to be in favor of free speech, tolerance, and peace only when it suits their ideology and is convenient to do so. We stand with the Freedom Center in its fight against racism and intolerance."
And the board of Im Tirtzu has issued this official statement,
First they came after the posters, then they came after the President, then they came…
The fight against the demonization of the State of Israel and of the Jewish People is a global one. While spanning different continents and cultures, and focusing on both local and widespread issues, there is a common thread here that unites the haters of Zion: the desire to destroy the Jewish State, and by extension, its Jewish citizens.
While we at Im Tirtzu, Israel’s largest, and most vocal grassroots Zionist organization, are daily defending our country against forces within who seek to de-legitimize the State of Israel, we are also aware of efforts by our like-minded friends in the Diaspora, who seek to counter the toxic lies of others also seeking to de-legitimize Israel.
We particularly note with growing horror the truly frightening atmosphere that exists on many American campuses. While in Israel, we are burdened with many anti-Zionist faculty, but blessed with a largely Zionist student body, we recognize that in America, both the faculty and a core but intimidating component of the student bodies are aggressively anti-Zionist, and increasingly anti-Semitic.
One organization that has been seeking to face up to Israel’s detractors is the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Exercising its free speech rights to defend Israel and to expose the motivation of those condemning Israel on the campus of San Diego State University (SDSU), the Freedom Center has, through its courage, produced a firestorm of hatred and threats, worthy of the Der Sturmer tactics of 1930’s Germany.
DHFC produced posters condemning Jew hatred, only to be met with barrages of more Jew hatred, and intimidation for having the effrontery to question the motives of the haters of Israel.
Israel’s detractors have shown their true colors by their threats, and attempts to harass the President of SDSU, literally threatening him with bodily harm until he “apologized” for not condemning DHFC’s efforts more forcefully.
These are scary times for the Jewish People. Disgusting events such as those at SDSU are not a threat to the State of Israel, but they are a threat to freedom loving people, Jewish or Gentile, in the United States.
For the sake of their democracy, and Western values, we call upon all Americans to rally to the side of our brave friends at the Freedom Center by condemning those who would de-legitimize and destroy Israel, and in the process making a mockery of cherished American values of free speech and expression."
