While most conservatives have been watching Cruz vs. Trump, on the left, Sanders vs. Clinton has gotten ugly. Bernie Sanders supporters have been accusing MSNBC of being in the tank for Hillary Clinton. Rachel Maddow's supposed advocacy for Hillary Clinton has made her a particular target for the Bernie contingent.
And Sanders, desperate to keep the race going, is pandering to his supporters by taking a fairly blatant shot at MSNBC.
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders called for a more liberal version of Fox News to help fix the problems he sees in corporate media.
“I think we have got to think about way that the Democratic party for a start starts funding the equivalent of Fox television,” he said in an interview that aired Friday on MSNBC's “The Rachel Maddow Show.”
This would be pretty redundant in general since every news network except Fox News is already a more liberal version of Fox News. It's doubly redundant on MSNBC whose whole premise is that it's a liberal news network. And considering how much Bernie Sanders complains about the Democratic Party, what makes him think that Debbie's DNC Network would be friendlier to his candidacy?
But Bernie Sanders is pandering to the paranoia and resentment of his supporters. And he just might be flailing around for a post-election role. He's just far enough out of it to think that starting a liberal news network would be a great idea. Maybe in 2004. As it is, Al Gore already had that idea. It failed badly and only made money once Al Jazeera decided to buy it for its own propaganda network.
And Bernie Sanders lacks Al Gore's connections that made Current so valuable for reasons having nothing to do with its non-existent viewership.
Also Sanders, typically, complains that he wants serious discussions. He might want to tell it to his supporters who spend most of their time spamming memes. Was Birdnie really supposed to be a serious talk about issues? It was no different than the great taco bowl. Or Hillary's hot sauce. And let's not forget that the bread and butter of liberal sites like Salon and Slate is lifestyle, not politics.
But sure. Let's have the DNC launch a news network. It doesn't have enough debt already.
