Dem Congressman With Violent District: Mass Shootings Caused by Poverty

Rep. Danny Davis was last in the news for praising the leader of a violent racist hate group.

Democratic Illinois Rep. Danny Davis defended Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan as an “outstanding human being” on Monday.

Farrakhan’s history of racially extreme comments includes blaming Jews for the September 11 attacks, saying white people “deserve to die” and praising Adolf Hitler as a “very great man.”

“I personally know [Farrakhan], I’ve been to his home, done meetings, participated in events with him,” Davis told TheDC.

“I don’t regard Louis Farrakhan as an aberration or anything, I regard him as an outstanding human being who commands a following of individuals who are learned and articulate and he plays a big role in the lives of thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of people,” he emphasized later.

Later Davis claimed he had been misquoted. Unclear how that works. Maybe he thought he was being asked about Farrakhan's more moderate cousin, Pete Farrakhan, who only thinks Hitler was okay.

Anyway here come more future misquotes from Rep. Danny Davis.

Rep. Danny Davis’ (D-IL) Chicago district is one of the most violent in the country. He said poverty was the primary cause of the bloodshed.

“The seventh congressional district is made up of a large number of people who migrated from rural South, they are poor, uneducated, impoverished plus the seventh district at one time used to be home to thousands of jobs, practically all of them are gone,” said Davis.

“So what we have seen, not only in the area known as the seventh district but in basically inner city Chicago... poverty has been the primary motivator of the mass shootings in the seventh district,” he said.

Clearly they're uneducated. They keep voting for Rep. Danny Davis.

Who knew? All these shootings weren't caused by guns, but by poverty. So let's end the whole gun control thing and just work on more poverty programs. Or does that just apply to Dem districts?

Poor Democrats shoot people because of poverty. Rich Democrats shoot people because guns exist. Do Democrats ever take responsibility for anything?

Or maybe they were just misquoted.
