Will the last man in the mainstream media please turn out the lights. The #MeToo movement has run a machete through the media. And the bleeding continues. After already losing Charlie Rose, it's CBS' turn again.
CBS News said Wednesday that it has fired its political director, Steve Chaggaris, amid allegations of "inappropriate behavior" in his past.
Chaggaris was a longtime CBS News employee. In his latest role Chaggaris, among other things, oversaw coverage of the Trump administration and occasionally appeared on CBS programs.
Chaggaris joined CBS in 1999. He held a number of different producing, reporting, and editing jobs. He left CBS for two years starting in 2010. Then he served as CBS News' senior political editor, until last March, when he was promoted to political director.
Will the last man in the media turn out the lights?
Chaggaris had appeared often enough on CBS to discuss Trump. And to discuss sexual harassment allegations.
In the current climate of sexual harassment allegations affecting a wide swath of industries, including politics, a top female Washington lobbyist says it's time for leaders to "foster a culture of respect."
"When I got here fresh out of the University of Iowa as a new, young congressional staffer, I think the general sentiment, it was sort of passed along from woman to woman, was 'boys will be boys and women have to manage that. And you should always be alert and avoid being in situations that are uncomfortable,'" Susan Neely, the president and CEO of the American Beverage Association, told CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett and Political Director Steve Chaggaris on this week's episode of "The Takeout."
I bet.
