"The Liberal You Deserve in Congress" Busted for Stalking Woman

When a Democrat does something wrong, it's a local crime story. When a Republican does something wrong, it's a national story. So of course this is a local story.

A Democrat running for Congress in New Mexico's second district was found and arrested at an apartment complex in Albuquerque on Friday, nearly two weeks after an arrest warrant was issued for him.

David Alcon is now behind bars after a woman accused him of stalking her, according to local station KRQE News 13.

The woman, who attended a Halloween party at a hotel in Santa Fe on Oct. 28, said she started receiving persistent text messages from Alcon—one with a picture of his genitals, some suggesting that he was watching her, and others professing his love for her.

The woman said later that night he texted her that he was outside her apartment.

Authorities issued a warrant for Alcon's arrest on Oct. 30, but Alcon did not turn himself into Santa Fe police. Instead, Alcon was arrested Friday in Albuquerque after police were called to the Villa De San Felipe Apartments for a welfare check.

Alcon was previously convicted of stalking a woman in 2007. His campaign has so far not released a statement or responded to requests for comment.

According to David Alcon's campaign site, he is running as "The Liberal you deserve in Congress". That seems a little unnecessarily ominous. Much like everything else about him.

"I want to ensure the integrity of the Affordable Care Act so millions of Americans keep their insurance," Alcon writes. Also he's for Obama and wants to legalize pot to pay for a bullet train and an NFL stadium.

"If New Mexico were to legalize and tax the sale of marijuana the state could spend two billion dollars on a state owned state of the art stadium and a billion dollars on a  modern bullet train."

How is this guy not being considered for the White House?

But lest you think he's some random crackpot, nope.

David Lee Alcon, son of state Rep. Eliseo Lee Alcon, D-Milan, is now among six Democrats seeking the nomination in the 2nd Congressional District, which covers the southern half of New Mexico.

“I think we need a liberal in Congress,” David Alcon said in an interview Tuesday. “I think I’m it.”

Here's a sample of his non-stalking work.

Democratic state Rep. Eliseo Lee Alcon of Milan in western New Mexico reported last month that he used campaign funds to pay son David Alcon a $500 “bonus for no primary opponent.”

Here’s Alcon’s explanation:

David Alcon, who is in his mid-30s, is his father’s campaign manager and advised the elder Alcon to run radio ads during the Legislature’s session this year on the lawmaker’s work in Santa Fe on behalf of his constituents.

Rep. Alcon ran the ads on a Gallup station, also paying for them with campaign funds. The population of the legislator’s district is overwhelmingly American Indian.

The son told his father that if the elder Alcon ended up without opposition in the primary or general election, it would be because of the ads. No Democrat filed to challenge Alcon in the primary, and no Republican filed for the general.

“I guess it worked,” Rep. Alcon said of the radio ads.

So, to reward his son for the advice to run the ads, the legislator gave him $500 out of his campaign fund.

Since 2010, Rep. Alcon’s candidate committee has paid son David a total of at least $8,600 for services and expenses, according to the committee’s reports on contributions and expenditures filed with the Secretary of State’s Office. The listed purposes of the services have include consulting, campaign management and computer work.

Hope. Change. Stalk.
