CBS' Shameful Infomercial for Qatar's Tyrant

The media talks a good game when it comes to President Trump. Meanwhile its lefties remain deeply in love with actual tyrants.

Qatar has been spreading a lot of money around America. I certainly hope that CBS and Charlie Rose got paid for the infomercial they did for Qatar. It would be pathetic if they did it for free.

I'll skip over Charlie Rose's softball questions for the Emir of the international state sponsor of terror. I didn't expect Charlie to ask the Emir any actual detailed questions about Qatar's links to Islamist terrorists or its slave labor. Instead Charlie served up, "They say" softballs for the Emir to bat down.

But it's the florid writing around it that's truly striking. In the worst possible way.

The target of the nearly five-month-old siege is Qatar's 37-year-old emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is now facing the challenge of saving his country.

"Saving his country". I hope he does as good a job of it as Saddam Hussein and Fidel Castro.

Again, I certainly hope Charlie and CBS got paid for it. It would be sad if they're giving away this sort of treatment to tyrants for free.

"The country's very existence was threatened on June 5th when the blockade was imposed by four countries that loom over Qatar, a country that is smaller than Connecticut and has a population of 3 million, only 300,000 of whom are native citizens."

Loom.

This purple prose also contains blatant editorializing. Of course CBS and Charlie Rose neglect to ask how a country of 3 million can have only 300,000 citizens. And what the other 2.7 million people are doing.

But this is high quality CBS journalism. The best journalism, Islamist oil money can buy.

Not long ago hundreds of trucks a day flowed through this border post. Now, there is only dust. Sheikh Tamim, Qatar's young emir, had to steady a stunned and skittish nation.

Poor tyrant. Luckily CBS and the lefty media has the Islamist tyrant's back.

In the mid-nineties, Qatar started the satellite news channel Al Jazeera, which has been a major irritant to autocratic regimes across the Arab world

And a major aid to Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood...

But if you really want a taste of the kinds of softballs Charlie Rose was tossing the Emir, here's one of the worst...

Sheikh Tamim: The difference between us and them during the Arab Spring is that we stood by the people.

Charlie Rose: And they stood by the regimes?

Sheikh Tamim: They stood by the regimes. It showed after that they stood by their regimes. Why did we stand by the people? Because they were asking for freedom, dignity. And I feel that we chose the right side when we stood by the people.

In a courtroom, they would call that 'leading the witness'.

If there was ever a question as to whether Charlie Rose had a sense of shame, it's been thoroughly settled.

Sheikh Tamim told us he never expected to be emir. He wasn't in the line of succession. As a teenager, his ambition was to become the Arabic Boris Becker. Once his tennis dreams were dashed, he was another wealthy member of the royal family.

Don't you just want to cry? Or play the world's smallest violin.

The tyrant of one of the world's worst terror sponsors had his dreams of being a tennis player "dashed". And he had to settle for just being obscenely rich and powerful.
