Hillary Clinton has blamed a whole lot of people for losing the election.
1. The FBI
2. The Electoral College
3. The Russians
4. Sexism
5. Matt Lauer
6. Bernie Sanders
7. Everyone
But finally she has come up with an actual culprit.
Her opponent -- real estate billionaire and reality TV star, Donald Trump, a political novice who had previously defeated 16 GOP primary challengers.
"He was quite successful in referencing a nostalgia that would give hope, comfort, settle grievances, for millions of people who were upset about gains that were made by others because—" Clinton said.
"What you're saying is millions of white people," Pauley said.
"Millions of white people, yeah," Clinton replied. "Millions of white people."
Millions of white people voting for her opponent did indeed cost her the election. Can't argue with that. Of course millions of white people also voted for her. And millions of black people voting for her cost Bernie Sanders the primaries. But we only reference millions of white people voting when it's a bad thing. Meanwhile millions of black people voting for Obama because of his race is a very good thing.
But if Hillary had really wanted to avoid the threat of millions of white people voting, she could have run for office in Communist China, Communist Cuba or Zimbabwe. They have very few white voters. Or much in the way of elections. So she could have done pretty well.
Instead we get the non-stop Tonya Harding shoelaces routine accompanied by a new frisson of identity politics racism.
