Google's Monopoly, Net Neutrality and Content Neutrality

New America, the left of center think tank, was one of the loudest voices in support of Net Neutrality. And no wonder. Google called the shots at New America. And Net Neutrality is a central part of Google's business strategy. Its premise, the hypocritical idea that cable companies should be compelled to be content neutral, while companies like Google shouldn't be.

Google is one of the internet's biggest and most dangerous monopolies. It's far more pernicious than any cable company.

And when New America's Open Market subsidiary endorsed a push against Google, this happened...

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Lynn said that a few hours after he published the June statement, Slaughter called him and said: “I just got off the phone with Eric Schmidt and he is pulling all of his money.” The New America Foundation didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about Lynn’s recollection of the call. In its statement, New America said it is “absolutely false” that Google lobbied New America to expel the Open Markets program because of its statement praising the European Commission’s antitrust action.

Anne Marie Slaughter, a Hillary crony, claimed that it was fake news. She denied it and then partly admitted it. Then she released some very selective emails. Even these emails essentially conceded, awardly, that it was about Google.

A Google spokescreature admitted that Eric Schmidt, the creepiest figure in Google, had been very unhappy, but denied that he had threatened to pull funding.

The outcry is a positive development. Google sends a lot of money to the right people. And that means we'll get a lot of frenzied howls about Net Neutrality, but very little talk about Content Neutrality.

If Google is going to control 80% of search traffic, it is far more of a dangerous monopoly than any cable company. If it's going to push for Net Neutrality, it should accept Content Neutrality.
