Bernie Sanders Refuses to Answer Questions about FBI Investigation

Both of the top Dem presidential candidates of the previous election, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, can lay claim to the mantle of dodging questions about an FBI investigation.

Next Bernie will insist that it's only a "matter".

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Monday ignored questions about the FBI investigation into his wife from Fox News and The Associated Press...

"No, that's not what I'm talking about today," Sanders told an Associated Press reporter who also attempted to ask about the FBI's investigation into his wife.

The FBI is reportedly looking into whether Jane Sanders falsified loan documents while she served as the president of Burlington College. The small Vermont liberal arts school closed down in May 2016 after going bankrupt and failing to meet accreditation standards.A family spokesperson confirmed to the AP on Monday that Jane Sanders has hired a lawyer to protect her interests.

Bernie tried to go self-righteous. But when you're dodging questions about an FBI investigation, the self-righteousness quickly falls flat.

Meanwhile on CNN, Bernie went with a Clintonesque display of phony self-righteousness.

"My wife is about the most honest person I know," Sanders said on CNN"s "Out Front" Tuesday. "All that I will tell you now is it's a sad state of affairs in America when not only we have politicians being destroyed... but when you go after people's wives. That's pretty pathetic."

Sanders also suggested in the video that the inquiry was politically motivated, but wouldn't comment further.

"That's all I'm going to say. I think it's fairly pathetic that when people are involved in public life not only do they get attacked, but their wives and their families get attacked," Sanders added.

Why would the FBI be targeting Bernie's wife for political reasons? The evidence of wrongdoing is there and it's pretty straightforward.

Jane Sanders, wife of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., overstated donation amounts in a bank application for a $6.7 million loan the college used to purchase a prime 33-acre property on Lake Champlain in 2010.

She told People’s United Bank in 2010 that the college had $2.6 million in pledged donations to support the purchase of the former Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington property.

The college, however, received only $676,000 in actual donations from 2010 through 2014, according to figures provided by Burlington College.

Two people whose pledges are listed as confirmed in the loan agreement told VTDigger that their personal financial records show their pledges were overstated. Neither was aware the pledges were used to secure the loan.

Sanders, the wife of U.S. Sen Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., appears to have counted Maietta’s bequest as a cash gift that was available as collateral to finance the land deal. The 2010 loan agreement says “CBM” pledged $1 million to the school over five years in increments of $150,000, with a final payment of $100,000 in year six.

In an interview, Maietta was incredulous that Burlington College would try to use her bequest to secure a bank loan. “You can’t borrow money on the future,” she said. “That doesn’t exist.”

Pathetic indeed.
