Portland mayor Ted Wheeler is requesting the federal government shut down the scheduled “Trump Free Speech Rally,” on June 4.There is also another not-yet-approved “March Against Sharia” rally on June 10, for which the mayor also wants permits denied.
Mayor Wheeler is cynically using the stabbing by a mentally ill man to justify this ban.
3) I am calling on the federal government to IMMEDIATELY REVOKE the permit(s) they have issued for the June 4th event and to not issue a permit for June 10th. Our City is in mourning, our community’s anger is real, and the timing and subject of these events can only exacerbate an already difficult situation.
And oh yes...
"5) I am calling on every elected leader in Oregon, every legal agency, every level of law enforcement to stand with me in preventing another tragedy."
You know how well this would have gone over if there had been a ban on Black Lives Matter protest after any of the killings of police officers by Black Nationalists.
The mayor’s spokesman, Michael Cox rationalized the mayor’s position this way: “The mayor is not seeking to limit the content of speech. “He is seeking to prevent violence.”
The left is going all in on censorship of speech. We are getting deep into the First Amendment. The left already made it clear that it wants to abolish Freedom of Religion. It's going all in on Freedom of Speech.
But don't worry, while you won't have free speech in Portland, there's plenty of pot.
"There is no reason Portland cannot be a leader when it comes to cannabis-related festivals," Wheeler said.
A leader in pot. With no free speech.
Truly the dream of the 1919s is alive in Portland.
