Baltimore's murder rate is out of control. It's so bad that they've asked for Federal help. Meanwhile their split lefty personality is taking sanctuary city to its logical conclusion.
California and other sanctuary jurisdictions have been complaining of Federal personnel showing up to bust illegal aliens. But they can't bust them if you never charge them.
The Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office has instructed prosecutors to think twice before charging illegal immigrants with minor, non-violent crimes in response to stepped up immigration enforcement by the Trump administration.
Deputy State’s Attorney Michael Schatzow, in a memo sent to all staff Thursday and obtained by The Sun, wrote that the Justice Department’s deportation efforts “have increased the potential collateral consequences to certain immigrants of minor, non-violent criminal conduct.”
“In considering the appropriate disposition of a minor, non-violent criminal case, please be certain to consider those potential consequences to the victim, witnesses, and the defendant,” Schatzow wrote.
Great plan.
Let's stop pretending that a sanctuary city is a sanctuary for anyone except criminals.
Non-violent is a neat pitch for ordinary people. But anyone who follows criminal justice knows that covers a whole lot of ground. And, just as in California, announcing that you effectively won't prosecute certain crimes also means that it's open season for the criminals committing them.
Want to shoplift? If you get arrested, just claim to be an illegal alien.
For that matter, if you're an illegal alien and want to loot. Come to Baltimore.
Talk about Space to Destroy.
And let's see what 2017's crime stats end up looking like.
