Republicans in the past have tried to show how 'with it' they are by playing up to the joke. President Trump chose another route by boycotting and counterprogramming the White House Correspondents Dinner. Once major media organizations and the administration pulled out, what was left was a hollow shambles.
While President Trump addressed working class Americans, Nerdprom went on with a Muslim Daily Show personality accusing Trump of being a Russian agent. It was weak and lame pandering right down the center of the left.
And it looked pathetic.
The whole thing is an important reminder that left-wing cultural power depends on us. When we participate, when we watch a TV show or take a lefty personality seriously, we give them power. When we shrug and pull out, the hollowness is exposed.
The White House Correspondents Dinner was always an absurdly hollow enterprise. Now it's just been exposed for what it is, an opportunity for lefties to preen for other lefties. The more conservatives and independents pull power out from lefty structures, the emptier they come to seem.
