No it's not an April Fool's joke. That's long past. Instead Obama and Lynch finally decided to turn over Fast and Furious docs a mere 5 years too late.
Let's step into a time machine back to 2011 when a smug corrupt Attorney General decided that cartel privacy trumped Congress.
Congressional investigators issued a subpoena Wednesday for communications from several top Justice Department officials -- including Attorney General Eric Holder -- relating to the discredited "Fast and Furious" federal gunrunning operation.
The subpoena, issued by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, also covers communications from Holder's chief of staff, Gary Grindler, and from Lanny Breuer, head of the department's criminal division.
A year later, Congress held Attorney General Holder in contempt for refusing to hand over the documents. Holder blamed this and the rain and the crease in his suit on racism. Now Lynch finally decided to release the documents in the bold world of 2016.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz said Friday that the Obama administration has turned over documents related to the "Fast and Furious" operation.
Chaffetz said the committee is still seeking additional records.
"Today, under court order, DOJ turned over some of the subpoenaed documents," Chaffetz, a Utah Republican, said in a statement. "The committee, however, is entitled to the full range of documents for which it brought this lawsuit. Accordingly, we have appealed the District Court's ruling in order to secure those additional documents."
So I suppose we can look forward to that in 2021.
