At least Clinton III is realistically evaluating her options. Considering how awful the New York City Council is, she could do no worse.
Three years ago, Chelsea Clinton suggested that her sights were set higher.
"Right now I'm grateful to live in a city, in a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president, my senators and my representative," she told NBC's "Today" in an interview that aired Monday.
She continued: "If at some point that weren't true and I thought I could make a meaningful and measurably greater impact, I'd have to ask and answer that question."
Now, she's planning to start a bit lower down the ladder.
Clinton said she liked her representatives in New York on all levels of government, but that she would consider a run for office if that were to change.
"I also think I'm really lucky to support and feel like I'm well represented, and my values are well represented by the people I could vote for. Like I really like my city councilwoman in New York, I really like my public advocate, I like my mayor, I like my congressman, I like my senators, I love my president—"
"I think if that were to change, like if I didn't like whomever were to succeed my councilwoman or my public advocate, then I would have to think, you know, could I make a real difference here or is this something that I should do."
Good news for the Public Advocate, Chelsea really likes her. But if that were to change... then it's out to the cornfield. So that means Letitia James, who is the terrible Public Advocate, is mark one. Her City Councilman, I believe, is the ridiculously obnoxious Corey Johnson who got his career by announcing early and often that he was gay. (No really, that's basically his career.)
So one or both of them had better watch their backs as Clintonworld decides how far down on the ground floor to start Chelsea's career in politics.
