Another story that reminds us why so many people disrespect Islam.
You may remember the story of Asad Shah, an Ahmadi Muslim (a sect of Islam deemed heretical by most Muslims), a storekeeper in the UK murdered for a Happy Easter greeting. Now the killer has confessed. And the reason is the usual "disrespecting Islam", "disrespecting Mohammed" and "disrespecting the cult" routine.
According to the killer, Tanveer Ahmed, a taxi driving Muslim settler in the UK, here are his motives.
'It is mentioned in the Quran that there is no doubt in this book no one has the right to disrespect the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and no one has the right to disrespect the Prophet of Islam Muhammad Peace be upon him.
'If I had not done this others would and there would have been more killing and violence in the world."
If I hadn't committed murder, then there might have been more killing and violence.
Of course Ahmed doesn't mean violence as we understand it. Just as Muslims don't mean terrorism or murder as we understand it. Ahmed was likely referring to Fitna. Which would mean suppressing un-Islamic beliefs to suppress disorder. This is the Islamic version of peace.
Ahmed claims that he killed Shah over his Ahmadi beliefs, and not over Christianity, but this seems to be quite a coincidence. There are plenty of Ahmadis in the UK. Why pick this one to kill with that timing?
Either way this is yet another reminder of just how much "respect" Mohammed and Islam rightfully deserve.
