Plenty of Israeli urbanites in Haifa liked to think that Islamic terrorism would go away if Israel forcibly evacuated the Jewish residents on the frontier in '67 Israel most often targeted by Islamic terror.

But the frontier is where Islamic terror is most likely to happen because it's the closest interface between Islamic populations and non-Islamic ones. The idea that Islamic terror stops when the invaders, settlers and colonists of Islam seized the frontier was always a naive delusion.

The frontier is just the easiest target. But the forcible ethnic cleansing of the Jews of Gush Katif enabled Hamas to declare its own terror state in Gaza and to expand the scope of its terror into rocket attacks on major Israeli cities.

The latest wave of arson strikes areas that were supposed to be safe. Islamic terror cannot be negotiated with. But it must also be remembered that it cannot be contained with fences or Iron Domes. It must be confronted and destroyed, or it will continue to adapt, deploy new tactics and cause new havoc and take more lives.
