I use the terms "liberal" and "conservative" very loosely here. But this is the list.
NBC's Lester Holt, ABC's Martha Raddatz, CNN's Anderson Cooper, CBS' Elaine Quijano and FOX's Chris Wallace. There's a very even division of network talent here. Not so much ideologically.
This election would have been a good moment to even up the ideological gap. Instead Wallace is there as a token and the representation is all mainstream media. In an age of new media, the arrangement, the hoary old network standbys, seem like an outdated arrangement. And ideologically, it means a panel of liberals moderating a presidential debate.
The distribution isn't bad. Not as bad as it could be. Most of the liberals here are likely to maintain a veneer of professionalism. Elaine Quijano is the dark horse and it's likely that she was brought on to pull a Candy Crowley. But it still indicates a basic lack of progress. The primary debates were a mess. And not much has changed. It's still the same old game.
