Gotta keep up the wealth redistribution.
First, some background from my piece, The Great Bernie Sanders Scam.
Obama recently praised Bernie’s fundraising, saying, “You’ve got to give Bernie Sanders, for example, credit — building off some of the work I did; I, in turn, built off the work that Howard Dean did — for smaller donations, grassroots donors.” That’s literally true since Bernie’s digital fundraising comes from Revolution Messaging run by Obama campaign veterans. And it’s cashing on Bernie in a big way.
When Revolution came on board, it was with boasts of raising $3 million in four days. Its founder declared, “We were looking for a candidate with a track record of doing the right thing - even if it meant taking on Wall Street billionaires and other powerful interests.”
And they had been looking for that candidate anywhere they could. Before Bernie, Revolution had been trying toget Elizabeth Warren to run with the Run Warren Run campaign.
What we think of now as the Bernie Sanders campaign needed a candidate who would open up left-wing wallets. Hillary Clinton was the perfect foil against which to run a doomed, but very profitable, progressive campaign. When Elizabeth Warren proved too savvy to be roped in, Bernie Sanders was the next best thing. And Bernie, with no commission cap and hipster appeal, brought in the big bucks.
That’s how the Great Bernie Sanders scam was pulled off.
Now fast forward to today.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will address supporters on Aug. 24 to tout "Our Revolution," a new organization intended to harness the energy of his supporters and help progressive political candidates across the country.
Sanders will speak from Ripley Manor in Washington, D.C., and Our Revolution’s launch will also air live at more than 2,000 organizing meetings nationwide, Sanders said in a press release issued Thursday.
“During our campaign we assembled a movement of millions of people ready to fight for the country we know we can become,” Sanders said in an email to supporters.
“Now it’s time for all of us to get to work. At this meeting, I and others will lay out some of the next steps we can take as a movement to empower a wave of progressive candidates this November and win the major upcoming fights for the values we share.”
Give money. More money.
The same technology that helped propel the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign is being employed to help some down-ballot candidates that the Vermont senator has endorsed.
Revolution Messaging, the digital marketing firm that worked for Mr. Sanders and helped him build name recognition and draw thousands of crowds to rallies through online advertising, is now helping House candidates that are using Mr. Sanders’s progressive message.
Mr. Sanders has endorsed both Ms. Gabbard and Mr. Canova, and launched Our Revolution, “a new organization to support progressive candidates and ideas” to help support candidates with Mr. Sanders’s ideals elected for local, state and national office, said Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs.
The ad platform, called Revere Exchange, allows campaigns to buy ads via a self-service tool on multiple sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube at once. The ad platform seeks to maximize the impact of each dollar spent, so nascent campaigns with small pocketbooks can make the most out of their budgets.
Wealth redistribution. Establishment style.
