The media is making much of Rep. Richard Hanna's endorsement of Hillary Clinton. Never mind that Hanna is a lame duck who is retiring. More to the point, he's a Democrat who found it more convenient to run as a Republican.
Hanna has the usual liberal positions on global warming, gay marriage and abortion. He's the kind of political hack for whom the term RINO (much abused since then) was coined. He's aggressively pro-gay marriage. He voted against cuts to Planned Parenthood. He hardly qualifies as a fiscal conservative even when you leave out social issues.
And he's increasingly blatant about being a Democrat.
Few moments were more revealing than this one from the previous election, long before Trump was being thought of as a viable candidate.
As the only Republican Congressman at a rally for the Equal Rights Amendment on Thursday, Rep. Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) gave women an unexpected piece of advice: Give your money to Democrats.
“I think these are very precarious times for women, it seems. So many of your rights are under assault,” he told the crowd of mostly women. “I’ll tell you this: Contribute your money to people who speak out on your behalf, because the other side — my side — has a lot of it.
Hanna was a Republican in the same sense that Bloomberg was. It was politically convenient for him to run that way.
The media is dishonestly portraying this as a break caused by Trump. But Hanna was a liberal sabotaging Republicans long before all this happened.
