Recent events, including an attempt by the military to remove Islamist tyrant Erdogan, and Erdogan's political purges, are a reminder that Turkey is not European and that it can never become part of Europe.
Erdogan has told murderous crowds chanting for death and shouting Allahu Akbar that he may bring back the death penalty. And there will now be a state of emergency and a suspension of the European Convention on Human Rights so Erdogan and his cronies can more effectively lock up political opponents. That's no small feat in a country that already has huge numbers of political prisoners.
The suspension of the European Convention on Human Rights should make it clear that Turkey cannot and should never become a part of Europe. Whatever conventions it adopts, will only be facades that will come and go at the beck and call of a murderous Islamist tyrant.
