Islamists exploit liberal sympathies over "Islamophobia" by smearing a broad range of people with that same brush. A typical tactic involves compiling a list of some "Islamophobia network" which includes prominent critics of Islam as well as a whole range of people whom Islamists hate, including Muslim liberals and ex-Muslims.
CAIR's Islamophobia report lists an Islamophobia network that includes the Washington Times, National Review, a maker of coloring books, pro-Israel groups and Bill Maher. CAIR deems just about any Jewish group opposed to terrorism to be "Islamophobic". Any anyone who donates money to them can make the guilt by association list. There's an outer core and an inner core. And probably meetings in secret rooms.
It's fairly typical as smears go. But there are more troubling aspects to it as well.
Also on the enemies list are Former Muslims United and the American Islamic Forum for Democracy. Ex-Muslims have always been a basic target for Islamists. Leaving Islam is punishable by death. And Former Muslims United features articulate figures such as Nonie Darwish, Amil Imani and Wafa Sultan. Much like Hirsi Ali, another target of CAIR, they are thorns in the side of Islamists.
Denouncing ex-Muslims as Islamophobes is simply the usual practice of targeting Muslims who have left Islam.
And then there's the American Islamic Forum for Democracy. Zuhdi Jasser is Muslim. Which makes the usual Islamist practice of calling him an Islamophobe bizarrely dishonest, but the media has no interest in performing even the most basic due diligence on any CAIR claim.
