There are various reports that Omar Mateen, the Muslim terrorist who carried out the attack in Orlando, had visited a gay bar and used a gay dating app. Assuming this is true, does it matter?
Muslim terrorists often pick targets that they know. The San Bernardino Muslim terrorists hit their husband's workplace. It would be logical for Omar to target a place that he was familiar with.
Our current mindset is that life is a binary proposition and if you are a Muslim who hates gays, then you can't possibly be gay. But the regional view has a more nuanced view of homosexuality, witness the "dancing boys" of Afghanistan, where a Muslim man might engage in gay activities without being gay. And Muslim terrorists like Anwar Al-Awlaki have had no problem denouncing American immorality while partaking of it. Within the Islamic mindset this actually makes a certain kind of logical sense.
If Omar Mateen had in fact been living a gay lifestyle, the contradictions between his way of life and his Islamic religion would have made Pulse into an even more tempting target for his Islamic redemption.
