"The Palestinians asked for a state, nicely. Did they get one? The hell they did. So they switched to blowing up kids on buses, and people started listening."

That's how one of the more famous stories of anti-Israel author Etgar Keret begins. Etgar Keret is one of those Israeli authors whom actual Israelis, the Mizrahi shopkeeper, the family struggling with living space in a crowded Jerusalem neighborhood, don't read. Like Amos Oz, he is the darling of an elitist left-wing establishment that despises ordinary Israelis. Some of Keret's work hasn't even appeared in Hebrew and he complains that Israelis call him a traitor.

So obviously he's winning the Bronfman Prize.

The $100K prize praises Keret for "conveying Jewish values". Never mind that his supporters praise him as the "voice of secular Israel" Propaganda dispenses easily with consistency.

But here's more Etgar Keret.

"Explaining the situation to a child growing up in Israel is a constant challenge. In order to show Lev why the Palestinians object to checkpoints, Keret and his wife set one up in their living room. “Every time he passed he would have to answer a question. Why do you need to pass? He’d say I need to pee, so I’d say do you really need to pee? When was the last time you peed? And after two hours he said I know why Palestinians are fighting, I’d fight too.”

This is the sort of vileness that the Bronfman Prize chose to reward. Perhaps next time they can give their prize to David Irving.
