New York City imposed a 5 cent tax on paper bags to save the planet. From paper bags. Now Bill de Blasio aka William Wilhelm Jr, the city's radical left-wing mayor, has found a new obsession.
Greeting customers as “Mr.” or “Mrs.” — or even not using the pronoun “ze” or “zir” — could prove costly for New York City businesses under rules drafted by Mayor Bill de Blasio’s bureaucrats.
The Gotham mayor’s Commission on Human Rights says entities that fail to address customers by their preferred gender pronouns and titles are in violation of the law and could be subject to penalties of up to $250,000.
The guidance, issued in December as part of a broader interpretation of the human rights law, notes that some people prefer pronouns that don’t have masculine or feminine forms, including “they/them/theirs or ze/hir.” The former are plurals being drafted for use in the singular, while the latter are among several alternative pronoun systems developed by academics and/or LGBT communities.
Xer is also on the list. Because we now live in the Twilight Zone.
Behind this nonsense though is an attempt to distract everyone from a collapsing administration. Bill de Blasio is under FBI investigation and, more importantly, being scanned by the aggressive US Attorney who has so far taken down two of the three most powerful elected officials in the state.
The feds are looking at how the mayor solicits campaign cash from members of the real-estate industry — and the fund-raising activities of his former campaign treasurer, Ross Offinger, the sources said.
And the news is starting to get worse for William Wilhelm.
Critics accuse Mayor de Blasio of setting up a shadow government — comprised of consultants who are not paid by City Hall, but pocket cash from clients, many of whom have business before the city.
The arrangement has long drawn complaints but it is generating a new wave of condemnation, because City Hall is refusing to release emails the consultants exchanged with the mayor and his top aides.
This game can only go on for so long. And then the mayor gets indicted. So Bill de Blasio is trying to do what he can while pandering to the left which is the only force that might have his back.
