Obama Inc. conducted a covert war against political opponents, including eavesdropping on their communications and locking them up, under the guise of national security.
And every time its misconduct is investigated, there are cries of national security.
Remember when Team Coup was claiming that exposing the Clinton-Steele Dossier has gotten people killed.
A lawyer for Glenn Simpson, the co-founder of Fusion GPS, told congressional investigators that “somebody’s already been killed” as a result of the publication of the controversial dossier tying President Trumpto Russia.
In closed-door testimony with the Senate Judiciary Committee last year, Simpson was asked by investigators if Fusion GPS took steps to “assess the credibility” of sources used by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, who compiled the dossier.
“Yes, but I’m not going to get into sourcing information,” Simpson replied.
Simpson then declined to answer a follow-up question. When asked why he was declining to answer, his attorney, Joshua Levy, said Simpson “wants to be very careful to protect his sources.”
You really have to protect noted Kremlin source, Cody Shearer.
And then the media went full Truther and began claiming that any Russian who died had really been killed over the Steele dossier.
Here's Round 2.
U.S. intelligence says Rep. Devin Nunes is risking lives, U.S. operative with latest document demand
It isn't clear what documents Nunes asked for in a classified April 24 letter, but intelligence agencies say it "threatened to cross a red line of compromising sources and methods of U.S. intelligence-gathering," the Post says. "Lawmakers conducting oversight are usually given summaries of the information, but not the intelligence collected directly from wiretaps and sensitive sources," The New York Times explained last week. "Rosenstein and top FBI officials have come to suspect that some lawmakers were using their oversight authority to gain intelligence about that investigation so that it could be shared with the White House," the Times added, citing "a former federal law enforcement official familiar with the department's views."
Giving the White House access to intel? That's crazy.
Anyway the classified info defense against transparency in this area no longer has any credibility. Not after multiple efforts by FBI figures to classify politically damaging material in the House investigation, that when it was exposed had nothing remotely classified about it. The only secret that was being kept was the malfeasance of figures in the FBI and the DOJ.
And, remember when that was going to endanger our national security?
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) declared that the committee had moved beyond “dangerous irresponsibility and disregard for our national security” and “disregarded the warnings of the Justice Department and the FBI.”
You can only cry wolf so many times.
And the efforts to remove the President from his elected office in order to nullify the 2016 election is itself a grave national security threat.
