President Trump called former FBI Director James Comey an, "untruthful slime ball" on Twitter..
The Point will attempt to determine whether that's true or not using the timeless media method of the "Fact Check" by assessing the words coming out of Comey's mouth.
Former FBI Director James Comey admits in a new interview that he doesn't know if the "pee tape" — one of the more salacious items in the so-called Steele dossier — exists.
In excerpts from an interview airing on an ABC News "20/20" special this Sunday, Comey says that its "possible" that the alleged incident occurred and that he was careful not to tell Trump whether he believed the allegations or not.
“I honestly never thought this words would come out of my mouth, but I don't know whether the current president of the United States was with prostitutes peeing on each other in Moscow in 2013,” Comey told ABC. “It's possible, but I don't know.”
“And I assumed he was asking that rhetorically, I didn't answer that, and I just moved on and explained, ‘Sir, I'm not saying that we credit this, I'm not saying we believe it. We just thought it very important that you know.’ "
“I never said, ‘I don't believe it,’ because I couldn't say one way or another,” Comey said.
He couldn't say, could he?
1. Did he happen to tell Trump that the origin of that story came from Clinton opposition research which was passed on to the FBI?
2. Did he mention that it probably came from the same guy behind the Quayle drug dealer story?
3. Did he mention that despite that the government took over the opposition research and used it to justify eavesdropping on Trump officials?
4. If it was good enough to justify eavesdropping on the political opposition, shouldn't Comey believe its most famous claims?
Comey wants to have it both ways. He headed an organization that helped back this nasty smear. And then he sneers at Trump for having to deny it.
That's the act of a troll or a... slimeball.
In the spirit of Comey's Higher Loyalty and Duty to the Truth, I would like to say that I don't know whether the former FBI Director is a sheep molester. Honestly, I just don't know one way or another if he had molested seven ewes on Knockerberry Farm, in a suburb just outside D.C., between 2007 and 2009.
I have absolutely no idea whether this is true or not.
If Comey were to ask me if I believe that, it would be very awkward. But I would tell him that it's important for him to know that people are alleging these things. And that I personally don't know what to believe.
And then snicker at him for denying it.
I too have a higher loyalty. Now where's my book deal?
