If only we were more like the Europeans and we opened our doors to terror migrants while banning anything that could be possibly used as a weapon.

London's murder rate has topped New York.

London overtook New York in murders for the first time in modern history in February as the capital endured a dramatic surge in knife crime.

Fifteen people were murdered in the capital, against 14 in New York. Both cities have almost exactly the same population.

London murders for March are also likely to exceed or equal New York’s. By late last night there had been 22 killings in the capital, according to the Metropolitan police, against 21 in the US city.

But those sensible Europeans have gun control. Unlike the uncivilized American savages who occasionally do things even when the government would rather that they didn't. So what's the problem?

Shockingly, murderers will kill people even when they don't have guns. And before the invention of firearms, sharp, edged blades were in use. But London is fighting back. With knife control.

"No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife. Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law," the Mayor of London tweeted.

That's right, chefs and people who use knives for a living, there are no excuses! Knife wands and knife stop and frisk searches have been deployed.

The Met Police has introduced targeted patrols with extra stop and search powers for areas worst-affected by knife crime

Knife wands are now available for every school in London to help keep young people safe, with 150 schools so far taking up the offer

The widely shared London Needs You Alive campaign brings together role models and youth influencers to send a positive message to young people - that they shouldn’t put their lives at risk by carrying a knife

The Mayor has published a new Knife Crime Strategy, a package of tough and comprehensive measures to tackle knife crime

It must be working because knife murders continue happening.

Here's a brief summary of UK Knife Control.

he UK outlawed the switchblade and gravity knife in 1959.

In 1988 possession of a pocket knife with a blade larger than 3 inches in public became illegal.

In 1996, it became illegal to sell a razor blade to anyone under the age of 16.

In 2007, you needed a license to be able to sell "non-domestic knives."

There's been a call to ban kitchen knives.

A team from West Middlesex University Hospital said violent crime is on the increase - and kitchen knives are used in as many as half of all stabbings.

"We suggest that banning the sale of long pointed knives is a sensible and practical measure that would have this effect."
