The media has a double standard when it comes to Republicans and Democrats. Anything the former do is a scandal. Hours of outrage, calls for impeachment and indictments quickly follow. But anything the latter do is quickly spun as, "Everyone does it."
Obama lied to the public about ObamaCare? Everyone does it. Bill Clinton raped and groped his way around America? Everyone does it. Obama illegally started a war? Everyone does it.
Ted Kennedy drowned a woman? Everyone does it.
Expect that to be the Clapper defense. Even if he did lie, everyone does it.
A House Intelligence Committee investigation of Russian election meddling has concluded that former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper misled Congress about disclosing information to CNN.
The report also said former White House National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to making a false statement to the FBI regarding conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak "even though the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents did not detect any deception during Flynn's interview."
The finding suggests the FBI improperly charged Flynn.
On the former DNI, the report says that Clapper, now a contributor to CNN as a national security analyst "provided inconsistent testimony to the committee about his contacts with the media, including CNN."
A CNN spokeswoman did not return an email seeking comment. Clapper could not be reached for comment.
CNN, by no coincidence, caught a touch of the Clapper.
Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper has joined CNN as a contributor, as CNN host Chris Cuomo welcomed him to the “family” on Monday.
After a Clapper appearance on CNN on Monday, Cuomo praised the Obama-era DNI. “It’s good to have him, good to be on. [He’s] part of the family. We’ll benefit greatly from his perspective,” Cuomo said.
And he's got compelling views.
Clapper on dossier: 'Doesn't matter who paid for it' - CNN
Does it matter who's paying Clapper? Or maybe everyone does that too.
