The Lord Mayor of Trier, Wolfram Leibe, inaugurated on March 19 a pedestrian light on which the silhouette of the city's famous socialist philosopher, Karl Marx, flashes. In addition to the communist red associated with Marx, who was born in Trier nearly two centuries ago, the traffic light also illuminates the spiritual father of revolution in green. He's depicted wearing his unmistakable beard and frock coat.
Philosopher is one possible description. Marx, Mussolini, Lenin, Hitler... just philosophers.
But I thought anti-Semitism was no longer acceptable in Germany. So why honor the anti-Semitic socialist who spewed invective like, "What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money. Money is the jealous god of Israel, in the face of which no other god may exist... The god of the Jews has become secularized and has become the god of the world."
Also Marx used racist slurs aimed at black people.
But there's always a special exception for lefty bigots.
In addition, a massive and somewhat controversial Marx statue donated by the People's Republic of China will be erected for the anniversary in Trier. While no doubt impressive, some locals have voiced some concern about the towering height of the "Mega Marx."
America got a Statue of Liberty from France. Germany gets a Statue of Socialist Slavery from Communist China which used Marx's ideas to justify murdering millions. As did the USSR.
