No amount of writing about "race issues" would get a leftist banned from campus, whether it's Ta-Nehisi Coates' vile views or just an ordinary white leftist "ally". But a black conservative can be banned from campus for rejecting the narrative of black victimization.
Mr. Riley, who is black, has attracted some negative attention since his publication in 2014 of Please Stop Helping Us: How Liberals Make It Harder for Blacks to Succeed...
The head of the finance department had not initially objected to Riley as the next BB&T speaker but later, when he realized that Riley had “written about race issues” in the Wall Street Journal, he decided Riley would have to go. The department head and others in the finance department “worried about more protests from the looney left” and were unmoved by arguments that it was wrong to give in to such intimidation.
Now if Riley's writing about race issues fell into the Ta-Nehisi Coates school of black fragility and white evil, there would be no way he would have been banned. But arguing that black people aren't fragile and white people aren't evil, now that's real hate.
