The Trump Investigation and the Libyan War

The Libyan War may have been Hillary's biggest scandal. It's also the scandal that hardly anyone talks about. After the murder of three Americans in Benghazi, conservative interest largely narrowed down to that particular incident rather than the larger context of the illegal war. But now it looks like the investigation of the Trump investigation is headed toward Libya,

In the heavily redacted, declassified version of the letter, which outlined why Graham and Grassley asked the Justice Department to consider opening a criminal investigation into Steele’s communications with the FBI, the senators allege that “Clinton associates” were “feeding Mr. Steele accusations” against the Trump campaign, thereby calling into question Steele’s credibility as a neutral source.

Two sources familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press, told me the redacted portions of the letter refer to the information compiled by Shearer—for the first time revealing some of the key details that were redacted in the original letter. Shearer’s information was passed to Steele by Winer. Winer, a friend of Steele’s, was then serving as the special envoy for Libya, and had previously passed Steele’s Russia and Ukraine reports along to the State Department’s Europe bureau between 2014 and 2016...

According to a source familiar with the matter, however, Steele’s “memorandum” was actually a handwritten note on a copy of Shearer’s report that outlined its origin—the “foreign sub-source” who had been in touch with Shearer. The note identified Shearer as a contact of Sidney Blumenthal’s, a longtime associate of the Clintons. It also explained that Steele had obtained the document via Winer, who had gotten it from Shearer.

Steele had written the note on the Shearer report while in Rome in October of 2016, while en route to meet an FBI contact there. It is not clear how or why Winer obtained the report from Shearer.

We already know that Sidney Blumenthal and Shearer had been linked to Libya.

Sidney Blumenthal has repeatedly claimed that he had no financial interests in a company seeking contracts in post-Gaddafi Libya that he pitched to Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state.

But notes from the longtime Clinton adviser’s Jan. 7 FBI interview undercut that claim. They show that Blumenthal did have a financial interest in the company’s project in the form of a finder’s fee, though it never materialized.

It emerged last year that Blumenthal, a former journalist and Bill Clinton White House aide, emailed Clinton touting projects undertaken by a U.S.-based contractor called Osprey Global Solutions. The company sought to work with Libya’s transition government after dictator Moammar Gaddafi’s fall to provide private security services and build floating hospitals in the war-torn country.

Blumenthal’s partners in pushing the project — which would have required State Department approval — were longtime Clinton fixer Cody Shearer and Tyler Drumheller, a retired CIA operative who was the source of many of the intelligence memos that Blumenthal sent to Clinton while she was in office.

The email leaks from Blumenthal's account suggests that's an understatement of his degree of interest in the war. I laid out some of this a few years ago.

Hillary Clinton hid emails discussing the exploitation of Libya’s oil fields. The Clintons had made an art out of merging their political and financial agendas. They had extensive ties with figures in the energy industry and the companies that dug into Libya’s energy sector, Royal Dutch Shell and BP, were Clinton Foundation donors.

Some of the deleted emails discussed this with Clinton Foundation employee Sidney Blumenthal, who was also providing Hillary Clinton with supposed intel from business interests while promising that the Libyan War would be an easy matter. Blumenthal encouraged “shock and awe”bombing in Libya.

According to Congressman Gowdy, who has been investigating the events in Benghazi, “Blumenthal pushed hard for a no-fly zone in Libya before the idea was being discussed internally by senior U.S. government officials.” He blasted Obama for being “unenthusiastic about regime change in Libya.”

Blumenthal called for providing the Jihadists with “armor piercing weapons” and called Secretary of Defense Gates a “mean, vicious little prick” who is “losing” the debate. Blumenthal also offered the very specific “national interest” argument that Obama would later echo, suggesting that he was unknowingly repeating the talking points of a man he loathed which had been handed to him by Hillary Clinton.

He also told Hillary Clinton that the war had to be ramped up or Obama would lose the election.

Having dragged Obama into Hillary’s war, Blumenthal was now pushing Hillary to blackmail him with the threat of losing the election if he didn’t escalate the conflict.

We've never had a serious investigation of what went on in Libya. The media was bent on covering up an Obama disaster. A lot of people on the right couldn't be bothered. But it looks like the road to the investigation of Trump may lead through Libya. And what happened there may have had something to do with the desperate need to stop Trump at any cost.
