Latest Social Justice Outrage Undone by the Facts

Every morning, lefties with empty lives get up and hunt for the latest thing to be outraged about.

A few days ago, it was this...

Mark Wahlberg received $1.5 million to take part in reshoots for “All the Money in the World,” while Michelle Williams got next to nothing. And while that strikes many as a clear-case of sexism...

Wahlberg is (like him or not) a movie star who starred in six movies that crossed the $100 million mark in six years. Michelle Williams is little known outside indie circles. So yes, their pay is not going to be 'equal'. Just as Michelle Williams makes a lot more than the extras on the set. It has nothing to do with gender. And everything to do with star power.

But who cares about facts anyway.

Still, it turns out that the difference had to do with a difference in contracts.

Williams received only a per diem of $80 a day, as USA Today first reported. Her contract required her to do reshoots, which turned out to be much more extensive than planned because director Ridley Scott re-cast disgraced actor Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer.

Wahlberg received more than 1000 times as much money as she did because reshoots were not in his contract, according to an individual with knowledge of the deal. It’s no surprise that Wahlberg’s agent, Ari Emanuel, demanded top dollar

Good agents nail down details like these. But Wahlberg also had a lot more leverage for getting things like this in his contract. He's a movie star trying to get artsy cred. But this is just what Michelle Williams does, appear in artsy movies.

It's not about gender. It is about common sense.
