Donna Edwards failed miserably in her efforts to become the Maryland Dem Senate candidate losing to Van Hollen 53% to 39%. That wasn't too surprising since Edwards was a terrible candidate. And she went out as an embarrassment with an identity politics speech that all but demanded quotas for the Senate.
“What I want to know from my Democratic Party is, when will the voices of people of color, when will the voices of women, when will the voices of labor, when will the voices of black women, when will our voices be effective, legitimate equal leaders in a big-tent party?”
As concession speeches go, that's pretty terrible. When you lose a democratic election, that's not a referendum on black women, but on you. Donna Edwards had not interest in being honest about that.
Neither do her supporters who repeatedly claim that she was "outspent". The anti-Israel crowd keeps emphasizing that Dem donor Haim Saban gave $100K to Van Hollen. However it overlooks the minor fact that a single anti-Israel donor gave far more to the anti-Israel Edwards.
In just the past two years, Donald Sussman has donated $100,000 to the Senate Majority PAC, $2.15 million to the House Majority PAC, and $2.5 million to Priorities USA Action, the trio of outside groups that make up the bulwark of the Democratic Party’s super PAC spending.
And yet of late, Sussman’s most notable — and controversial — contributions are in Maryland’s Democratic primary for Senate. The mega-donor has spent $2.1 million on behalf of Rep. Donna Edwards, a Washington-area congresswoman who is locked in a tight battle against Rep. Chris Van Hollen.
Donald Sussman is associated with the Israel Policy Forum, a hostile left-wing group. Oddly, the Intercept, which is making its usual anti-Israel hay out of the Saban donation has no interest in discussing the Sussman one. Sussman sits on the board of Emily's List and the money was funneled through Emily's List.
But the left as usual is always the victim.
