Senator Al Franken is ashamed. Not so ashamed that he will resign or admit guilt. But so ashamed in a nebulous way in which he admits nothing, except for the one case in which there's indisputable photographic evidence.
The Gaslighter of the Senate "can’t say that it hasn’t happened." In "crowded chaotic situations, I can’t say I haven’t done that,"
Senator Franken can't confirm or deny that he might not have (double and triple negative) possibly groped some women. But he's very ashamed that they misunderstood his innocent accidental crowded groping as being intentional.
He can't say that it has or hasn't happened. But he's very sorry that the women misunderstood him and would very much like to get back to his day job of embarrassing Minnesota.
“I am not saying that,” Franken replied. “As I said, I take thousands of photos. I don’t remember these particular photos.”
“With all due respect, people are going to find it hard to believe that someone such as yourself wouldn’t know that they were grabbing someone’s butt,” Murphy shot back.
“I can understand how some people would see it that way,” Franken said.
“But have you ever placed a hand on some woman’s butt?” Murphy asked.
“I can’t say that it hasn’t happened. In crowded chaotic situations, I can’t say I haven’t done that. I am very sorry if these women experienced that,” Franken conceded.
It's all very confusing. But it's the women who are confused. Also it's possible that more confused women might come forward.
Asked if he thought more accusers would come forward, Franken was unable to say. “If you had said to me two weeks ago that a woman was going to say that I had made her uncomfortable and disrespected her in one of these ways I would have said ‘no,'” Franken told Minnesota Public Radio. “So, you know, I don’t know. I can’t say.”
Franken said that the accusations against him have “been a shock to me.” He also reiterated his newest groping excuse: that he hugs women.
I think Senator Franken should adopt the Obama/Hillary excuse for every scandal and announce that he only found out that he had been groping women from the media.
