The #MeToo movement claims another left-wing casualty. And this is a big one.
Glenn Thrush might not be a household name to most people. But he is the New York Times' White House correspondent. With his goofy fedora, the journalistic cosplay has always been a little too much. And last month, he scored a book deal; for an anti-Trump book.
Thrush, wearer of a signature fedora, was parodied on Saturday Night Live by Bobby Moynihan. They are two of the essential stars of the Trump administration.
One of those stars has dimmed.
New York Times journalist Glenn Thrush has been suspended following sexual misconduct allegations.
The Times confirmed on Monday that Thrush, who was hired in January to cover the Trump administration, had been suspended while the publication investigates.
Vox interviewed multiple women who alleged sexual misconduct against Thrush, including unwanted groping and kissing.
Here are some of the details.
Sexual harassment claims against yet another powerful man in media inspired New York Times White House correspondent Glenn Thrush to post an impassioned note on his Facebook page in October, calling on his fellow journalists to stand by women entering the field.
Not so much so in reality.
On that night five years ago, I joined Thrush and a handful of other reporters for a few rounds at the Continental, a Politico hangout in Rosslyn, Virginia. At first, nothing seemed strange, until the crowd had dwindled down to Thrush, me, and one other female colleague.
Thrush tossed a $20 bill at her and told her to take a cab and leave us, “the grown-ups,” alone. He slid into my side of the booth, blocking me in. I was wearing a skirt, and he put his hand on my thigh. He started kissing me. I pulled myself together and got out of there, shoving him on my way out.
A lot of the stories are like that. Generally anonymous.
There's a storm of allegations these days. And some are less than solidly grounded. Some, like the Vox piece, feel like gossip put forward in a journalistic style. But it is the left that made these rules. And it's purging itself by them. That's how it usually goes.
And another lefty star bites the dust.
