Another reminder, as if we needed one, that it's not going to stop with Confederate generals. Or, for that matter, Virginians or slaveowners. Look at the history of the left around the world. And look at where they drew the line and stopped. The answer is nowhere. And so we have this insult, unthinkable in the pre-Obama era where the Dems at least feigned respect for America.
An historic Episcopal parish where George Washington frequently worshiped has decided to remove a memorial plaque honoring the nation’s first president, saying the decision was out of a desire to provide a “welcoming” worship space for all visitors. The church will also remove a similar memorial plague honoring Robert E. Lee, the commander of Confederate Army of Northern Virginia.
The vestry of Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia, announced its unanimous decision in an Oct. 26 letter, The Republican Standard website reported Thursday.
This rash of 'welcoming' spaces and 'safe' spaces never show any consideration for Americans. Only for the anti-American leftists who hate this country and everything about it. Everything must be made 'welcoming' for them and unwelcoming for Americans.
“It is important to understand that the plaques will not be moved to a storage area,” the vestry noted in its letter. “Rather, they will remain in the church until they can be relocated to a place of respectful prominence where they will be fully visible to parishioners and tourists alike. And ultimately, they will be incorporated into a more complete presentation of our long and many-faceted history.”
Just like the Alamo.
There will be a respectful effort to bury them somewhere out of sight. Or put them on display next to an artist's rendering of Washington whipping a slave and just below a gay pride flag. Anyone familiar with the left is deeply familiar with their respectful presentations of American history. The current entrance to Colonial Williamsburg, for example, respectfully informs visitors that they are entering a time of great racism, sexism and general awfulness. The Intrepid tour in New York City now includes a tour guide respectfully lecturing on how racist the ship and crew were. And at the New York Historical Society, a costumed reenactor dressed as a Revolutionary War loudly informed visitors of how racist Washington was.
Respect.
If you want to see respect from the left, you can look for it in the New York Times' series on Communism. Now that is a respectful presentation. But we respect what we respect.
Americans respect George Washington. The left respects Stalin, Malcolm X and Che.
Meanwhile here are some of the things that Christ Church in Alexandria is focusing on. With actual respect.
