Legends of Tomorrow has added its first Muslim superheroine. And ABC is developing a comedy about Muslim superheroes.
ABC is developing a comedy about a Middle Eastern family with superpowers from Larry Wilmore and Bassem Youssef, Variety has learned.
The untitled series centers on the Sharif family, an ordinary Middle Eastern American family with two superhero parents at a time when it’s illegal to be a superhero, so they are forced to save the world in secret. The show will highlight some of the issues that immigrant families face when it comes to fitting into a society that at many times treats you like the enemy.
Bassem Youssef moved to California because his own Muslim country was rather intolerant of him. As I recall, the Muslim Brotherhood tried to arrest him for insulting Morsi and Islam.
Bassem Youssef is an Egyptian. A recent member of a majority Muslim country that persecutes non-Muslims. Any chance we can get a series about Coptic Christians in Egypt who are secretly superheroes, but are being treated as the enemy.
Yup. Thought so.
A Muslim country was too intolerant for Bassem Youssef, but he can always move here and complain about how intolerant America is.
