The trouble with purges is that you can never tell when and where they will end. And once you unleash extremists, they don't stop. That's the lesson that should have been learned with the French Revolution, but that the left has to keep relearning right before it forgets it all over again.
The founder of an anti-President Donald Trump group told the Associated Press that Democrats "need to be talking about impeachment constantly" and added that elected party members who do not do so should leave.
"We need to be talking about impeachment constantly," said Scott Dworkin, co-founder of the recently formed Democratic Coalition Against Trump.
He added on Twitter on July 9 that, "If you're an elected Dem & you're not talking impeachment or 25th amendment then find a new party.
And so we've gone from purging Trump to purging much of the Dem leadership. Which the infinitely extensible radicals who have been invading the Dems would find quite useful. Trump becomes the pretext for a larger purge of the party. And considering how swiftly the Dems have surrendered to every new burst of insane left-wing crackpottery from free college to Black Lives Matter, there's no telling how long the Dems have until this goes mainstream.
Dem donors are angry and fed up. After four lost special elections, the Hillary boondoggle and lots of failed promises, they might just be ready to burn the party down.
Like Saturn, the Resistance devours its own children.
