CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller revealed Tuesday that the network's reimagining of the iconic character will be diverse.
"She is diverse, that is the way she is written," the executive told THR immediately following his time in front of the press at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour Tuesday.
What exactly is a diverse person? I appreciate the politically correct butchering of the English language as much as the next ad exec, but how do you make a human being diverse?
Will Nancy Drew have multiple personality disorders in which her personalities will have diverse racial, ethnic and sexual backgrounds?
While Geller said it was too early in the process to explain just what he meant by diverse — whether Nancy is African-American, Asian-American or Latino, he said it would hinge on finding the right actress for the part. "[She will] not [be] Caucasian," he stressed. "I'd be open to any ethnicity."
Any ethnicity... except Caucasian. I'm sorry, but you're the wrong color to play Nancy Drew. But that's not racist, because... diversity. A major studio felt the need to apologize for casting white actors to play mythological Egyptian gods. The usual idiots complain when Jewish biblical figures are played by white actors because they're retarded racist cretins. They also demanded a black Cleopatra, because they're as as historically illiterate as they are racist.
But maybe the new Nancy Drew can be a black-Latino-Asian mix. She'll be a one-woman diversity team.
Now in her 30s, Nancy is a detective for the NYPD where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.
So this is just another generic network cop show that has nothing to do with Nancy Drew. But at least it'll be very excitingly diverse. Just no white people allowed. Except on the production end.
