The People's Republic of California added 4 states to its list of no-go zones. This makes for a total of 8 states.
Attorney General Xavier Becerra added Texas, Alabama, South Dakota and Kentucky to the list that already included North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. That's around 70 million people. Also known as a quarter of America.
At this rate, California will soon ban state-funded travel for its public officials to any place that has freedom. And it is freedom that's at issue. Religious freedom.
Kentucky, the latest state on Brown and Becerra's hit list, dared to pass a bill protecting religious freedom in schools. Specifically the Charlie Brown Law.
California's attorney general blocked state-funded travel to Kentucky and three other states on Thursday in response to what he considers anti-LGBT rights laws enacted this year.
That's Senate Bill 17.
On March 16th, Governor Matt Bevin signed Senate Bill 17 into law.
The bill, designed to protect religious expression in public schools, is known as the “Charlie Brown law,” after a Kentucky school cut a bible verse from their production of “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
The bill prevents school officials from regulating student organizations, including the selection of members and “doctrines and principles.”
Human Rights Campaign Legal Director Sarah Warbelow said the bill would allow student groups to discriminate against LGBT students “under the guise of religion.”
Republican state Rep. John Blanton said the bill just guarantees students First Amendment rights.
Becerra and Brown (not the adorable children's character) hate Charlie Brown this much.
"Today, the ACLU is proud to stand with our partners and Attorney General Becerra, and do our part to make freedom and justice a reality for every American - regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression," said Ashley Morris, Organizing Director, ACLU of Northern California.
...by blockading entire states for protecting freedom.
Next up maybe it's time to build a wall to prevent people from escaping California's "freedom and justice".
