Contempt for the Media Has Been a Hallmark of Conservative Presidents

"Remember when Ronald Reagan body slammed a reporter to the cheers of the conservative grassroots? Neither do I," Michelle Fields wrote in the New York Times.

Let's skip over the fact that we don't really know what happened. And that the Guardian is a radical left-wing pro-terrorist rag whose claims to anything should be automatically disbelieved. And that the FOX News "witness" quickly began walking her story back into an ambiguous vanilla pudding.

Contempt and hostility toward the media has long been a hallmark of conservative presidents.

One of Reagan's breakout moments was snapping, “I am paying for this microphone" at the editor of the Nashua Telegraph after he gave the order to turn his microphone off. Reagan credits that exchange for helping him win the election. And then there were Bush and Cheney on a hot mic with nothing good to say about a New York Times reporter. No apology was offered. And Bush's interviews, particularly with Matt Lauer, could take on a visibly combative air.

As the media has escalated its conflict with Republicans, becoming a deeper part of the radical left, there has been blowback. And it won't be over any time soon.

A conservative grassroots that is being terrorized by the unelected power of the media left is not going to be sympathetic to its oppressors.
