First female flight attendants on Air France rebelled against wearing Hijabs while flying to Iran.
Union leaders said that the headscarf mandate infringes on the attendants’ personal freedoms and qualifies as being told to wear an “ostentations religious sign,” which is illegal in France.
They want flights to and from Tehran to be optional for flight attendants, and one leader said Air France authorities had floated the possibility of consequences for staff who wouldn’t comply with the uniform specifications.
Women in Iran have to wear Hijabs because Islam believes there are crazy rays emitted from their hair.
In 1981, Abol-Hassan Bani-Sadr, the first president of the Islamic Republic, announced that "scientific research had shown that women's hair emitted rays that drove men insane" (sic). To protect the public, the new Islamist regime passed a law in 1982 making the hijab mandatory for females aged above six, regardless of religious faith. Violating the hijab code was made punishable by 100 lashes of the cane and six months imprisonment.
French flight attendants are not crazy about the Hijab or the caning. And now gay flight attendants also want out.
A steward from Air France has launched an online appeal against gay cabin members having to travel to Iran. It's titled: "Gay stewards from Air France don't want to fly to the death penalty in Iran".
"Sure, our sexuality isn't written on our passports and it doesn't change the way we work as a crew," wrote 'Laurent M' in an open letter to the French government and the CEO of Air France Frédéric Gagey.
The letter points out that homosexuality in Iran is illegal and comes with a penalty of 74 lashes for a minor, while adults can be given the death penalty.
Laurent must be Islamophobic. If he were truly tolerant, he would welcome Islamic justice.
But the good news is that currently French flight attendants represent all the remaining moral courage of the West. Also the average Air France flight attendant has approximately 12 times the moral courage of Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton combined.
